Course Qualifications and Accreditation

This TEFL / TESOL course is accredited internationally by:

The College of Teachers, leading to the internationally-recognized Associateship in TESOL (ACOT in TESOL), a worldwide accepted TESOL / TEFL certificate. 

The College of Teachers' qualifications are independently valid and stand alongside the National Qualification Framework (NQF) and Framework for Higher Education Qualifications (FHEQ) 

This qualification is assessed at NQF - Level 5, FHEQ I (Intermediate)

Level 5 qualifications are at a level equivalent to intermediate Higher Education Qualifications such as Diplomas of Higher Education, Foundation and other degrees that do not typically provide access to postgraduate programmes.

Successful canditates who have enrolled on the Endorsed Certificate will also receive the Anglo Centres Certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) with an endorsement in Teaching English for Business and English to Young Learners.

Course Aims

The overall aim of the course is to provide a thorough introduction to the Methodology and Practice of TESOL / TEFL. By the end of the course successful candidates should show an understanding of effective teaching methods and techniques and the ability to design appropriate and effective lesson activities and plans. Overall, this course should enable candidates to reconcile key theoretical aspects and principles of teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages with the realities of everyday classroom practice.

The general objectives of the course are for candidates to:

1. Demonstrate a general understanding of, and familiarity with, the world of teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages including general terminology, the profession's qualifications, further training options and career opportunities.

2. Demonstrate a good grasp and a basic understanding of the Communicative Approach to Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages.

3. Write objectives and appropriate lesson plans.

In compliance with the course pre-requisites and  learning outcomes as defined by The College of Teachers, the following are some of the more specific objectives of this TESOL / TEFL course:

• The TEFL Certificate (ACOT in TESOL) provides candidates with a deeper insight into the challenges facing the learner and the teacher.

• The TEFL Certificate (ACOT in TESOL) is available to native and near native English speakers whose first or second language is English.

• The TEFL Certificate (ACOT in TESOL) is suitable for those who want to teach internationally.    

• The TEFL Certificate (ACOT in TESOL) gives candidates a deeper understanding of the theory of contemporary English teaching practice.

• The TEFL Certificate (ACOT in TESOL) is aware of the importance of further professional development throughout candidates' career.    

• The TEFL Certificate (ACOT in TESOL) reflects current approaches to TESOL / TEFL.

• The TEFL Certificate (ACOT in TESOL) encourages candidates to experience what it is like to be a language learner.    

• The TEFL Certificate (ACOT in TESOL) provides candidates with a deeper understanding about the relationship between the theories underpinning their practice.    

• The TEFL Certificate (ACOT in TESOL) encourages candidates to develop self-evaluation techniques and record progress throughout their course.    

• The TEFL Certificate (ACOT in TESOL) ensures candidates learn valuable work-life skills and help them develop a successful career.    

• The TEFL Certificate (ACOT in TESOL) provides access to skills books for teaching reading, writing and listening; pronunciation books and the accompanying tapes; as well as vocabulary books.

Course Contents

This course consists of ten separate units that explore the theoretical and methodological aspects of teaching English as a foreign or second language. You will develop the skills of teaching by working your way through a number of practical tasks. As part of your training you will be asked to reflect on how you would apply these theories and methods in an actual classroom setting. A regular assignment is to give you real life situations and require you to plan unique lessons for a specific group of learners at varying levels of skill and understanding.

The Certificate is offered in two versions:

A- The Certificate in TEFL/ COES in TESOL (150 hrs)

B - The Certificate in TEFL/ COES in TESOL with an endorsement in teaching English for Business and English to Young Learners (170 hrs)

The Endorsed Certificate can be particulary useful to those candidates who aspire to work in organisations that run young learners courses and/or provide in-company training.

Course Evaluation

You progress will be continually evaluated. There are no exams. As you continue to improve in your teaching abilities your grade will continue to evolve to reflect your professional growth. Final grades are based on where you are at the end of your training and are given as either A+, A, B+, B or C.

Course Length

The length of time required to complete the course varies from person to person. If you dedicate yourself to the course fully, for example an average of 3 hours a day, you can finish in less than four weeks. Most people, however, due to other life and professional commitments can only work on the course four or five hours a week and take between eight and twelve weeks to finish. In any case there are no time limits for completing your course as we understand that eventualities come up.

Course Dates and Fees

You may start your course as soon as your course fees have been paid.
There are no deadlines for submitting assignments or completing the course.

Fees can be arranged to be paid in installments.

After the course

Shortly after you successfully complete the online course, you will be mailed your certificate and letter of reference.

However, your real award will not be a mere piece of paper. Your award will be a possession of the skills, experience and confidence to go out anywhere in the world and successfully teach other learners the English language.

At Anglo Centres TEFL, you graduate with more than just a certification to teach, you graduate as a professional educator.

This course can be supplemented at any time with a Teaching Practice Certificate. This includes a 5-day stay at our centres in Tarragona, Spain where you will have the opportunity to learn about planning lessons and teach real classes of students. After this you will earn your Teaching Practice Certificate which combined with your online certificate will make of you a strong candidate for any teaching position.

After completing the course you have the option of taking the internationally-recognised Cambridge ESOL Teaching Knowledge Test (TKT). This course incorporates full preparation for this exam in the course fees. This does not include exam fees which need to be paid directly to the examination centre. Exams can be taken at any of the examination centres that Cambridge ESOL has worldwide.
